In the 1968 film Night of the Living Dead, what is the name of Ben's actor?

The story behind the answer

Duane Jones played Ben in the 1968 film Night of the Living Dead.

Jones was a New York stage and screen actor who had worked in theater before being cast in George A. Romero's independently produced horror film. Ben becomes the central human survivor after reaching an isolated farmhouse during the undead crisis.

The casting was notable because Jones, a Black actor, played the leading character without the film making his race the subject of the story. This was unusual for a major horror protagonist in 1968. Ben is sometimes confused with Peter, the character played by Ken Foree in Dawn of the Dead, another Romero film.
