In Shaun of the Dead, who plays Shaun’s friend Ed?

Nick Frost plays Shaun’s friend Ed in Shaun of the Dead.

Ed is Shaun’s laid-back best friend and housemate. His comic personality contrasts with Shaun’s initially aimless routine, and their friendship remains central as the pair try to survive a zombie outbreak in London. Frost’s performance helped make Ed one of the film’s most recognizable supporting characters.

Simon Pegg plays Shaun and co-wrote the screenplay with director Edgar Wright. The film was released in 2004 and is the first entry in Wright, Pegg, and Frost’s informal Three Flavours Cornetto trilogy, followed by Hot Fuzz and The World’s End.

Viewers sometimes confuse the actors because Pegg and Frost frequently appear together and share the film’s comic rhythm. Pegg is Shaun, while Frost is Ed. Bill Nighy plays Shaun’s stepfather, Philip, and Dylan Moran plays Shaun’s colleague David.
