In Shaun of the Dead, Shaun and his friends seek refuge at The Winchester pub.
The Winchester is the neighborhood pub at the center of the film's survival plan. Shaun proposes going there because he associates it with safety, familiarity, and a place where he can wait out the zombie outbreak. The plan becomes one of the movie's recurring jokes because the pub is not necessarily as secure as Shaun imagines.
The 2004 British horror comedy stars Simon Pegg as Shaun and Nick Frost as his best friend, Ed. Edgar Wright directed the film, which combines romantic comedy, workplace frustration, and classic zombie-movie conventions. Its title and plot also deliberately echo George A. Romero's Living Dead films.
Viewers sometimes confuse The Winchester with the rifle-related references surrounding it. The pub's name is a nod to Winchester firearms, and the film later uses that connection as part of its action and comedy. The pub itself became one of the movie's most recognizable fictional locations.
