In Shaun of the Dead, Shaun’s girlfriend is named Liz.
Liz is played by Kate Ashfield, while Simon Pegg plays Shaun. At the start of the film, Liz is frustrated by Shaun’s immaturity, his lack of attention and the routine surrounding their relationship. She breaks up with him before the zombie crisis fully takes over London.
Shaun later decides to rescue Liz, his mother Barbara and his friend Ed. The group attempts to reach the Winchester pub, which Shaun believes will be a safe refuge. Their relationship gives the comedy a personal emotional thread beneath its zombie satire.
Liz is sometimes confused with Yvonne, another character played by Jessica Hynes. Yvonne is Shaun’s friend and later joins the survivors, but she is not Shaun’s girlfriend. The film was directed by Edgar Wright and released in 2004.
