In Resident Evil: Extinction, which city is threatened by the advancing zombie outbreak?

The story behind the answer

In Resident Evil: Extinction, the advancing zombie outbreak threatens Las Vegas.

The 2007 film is the third entry in the Resident Evil film series. Its story takes place after the T-virus has spread across much of the world, leaving cities abandoned and the landscape increasingly desert-like. Alice and a convoy of survivors travel through the devastated American Southwest while Umbrella Corporation continues its experiments.

Las Vegas is presented as a major ruined location rather than the series’ original city setting. The film uses recognizable desert roads, casinos and empty urban spaces to show how far the catastrophe has expanded. Alice’s encounter with a large infected horde in the city is one of the sequel’s central action sequences.

Raccoon City is the key setting of earlier films, especially Resident Evil: Apocalypse. That earlier location can cause confusion, but Resident Evil: Extinction moves the story beyond the quarantined city and focuses on a wider continental collapse.
