The Raccoon Police Department, usually shortened to RPD, is one of the game’s central locations. Leon S. Kennedy arrives there on his first day as a police officer, while Claire Redfield reaches it while searching for her brother Chris.
The building is based on an art museum in the game’s backstory and contains offices, corridors, puzzles, and a concealed route to Umbrella’s underground facilities. Its design makes the police station both a shelter and a dangerous maze.
The RPD should not be confused with the S.T.A.R.S. unit headquartered inside it. S.T.A.R.S. is a special police team, while the RPD is the broader department and building.
