In Pixar’s Toy Story 4, Bonnie gives her handmade spork toy the name Forky.
Forky is created during Bonnie’s kindergarten orientation from a plastic spork, pipe cleaners, craft sticks, googly eyes, and other classroom materials. Bonnie sees him as a toy because she made him herself, while Forky initially believes he belongs in a trash can. That conflict drives much of the film’s early comedy and emotional story.
Forky’s name combines the utensil’s original identity as a spork with the fact that Bonnie calls him a fork. The character is not a traditional manufactured toy, which makes him different from Woody, Buzz, and the other established toys. He is often confused with a generic craft project, but Forky is the specific name Bonnie gives this individual character.
