In Pixar’s Cars, which veteran race car is voiced by Paul Newman?

Doc Hudson is the veteran race car voiced by Paul Newman in Pixar’s Cars.

Doc is the respected physician and judge of Radiator Springs, but he once had a distinguished racing career. His history as the “Hudson Hornet” explains his knowledge of racing and his initial impatience with Lightning McQueen.

Paul Newman, a celebrated actor and former racing enthusiast, supplied Doc’s voice. Cars became his final feature-film acting role, and his interest in motorsport added resonance to the character.

Doc Hudson is inspired by the real Hudson Hornet, a car associated with stock-car racing success in the early 1950s. The character’s racing past is revealed gradually rather than stated at the beginning of the film.
