In Pixar’s Cars, which town’s sheriff stops Lightning McQueen after his escape?

The story behind the answer

In Pixar’s Cars, Radiator Springs is the town where Sheriff stops Lightning McQueen after his escape.

After being separated from his race team, Lightning wanders onto the road and damages the main street in the small desert community. Sheriff, the town’s law-enforcement car, catches him and brings him back for a hearing. The court orders Lightning to repair the road before he can leave.

Radiator Springs is located in the fictional Carburetor County, along the historic Route 66. Its residents include Mater, Sally Carrera, Doc Hudson, Luigi, Guido, Ramone, Flo, and Fillmore. Although Lightning initially sees the town as an inconvenience, repairing its road leads him to form relationships and learn about its lost importance.

Carburetor County is the county, not the town, so the two names are easy to confuse. Radiator Springs is also the setting where Lightning’s racing identity changes: he begins to care about the people around him rather than treating every stop as a delay on the way to victory.
