In Pixar's Cars, Randy Newman's “Our Town” plays during Lightning McQueen and Sally's countryside drive.
The sequence takes place after Sally shows McQueen the landscape around Radiator Springs. They travel through the area while the song presents the town and its surroundings as places with history, character, and emotional value rather than as an empty shortcut.
“Our Town” was written and performed by Randy Newman for the film. It was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Song, adding a reflective musical counterpoint to the film's faster racing scenes.
The song is often mixed up with “Life Is a Highway,” which is associated with McQueen's drive and the end credits, and “Real Gone,” which opens the film. “Our Town” is specifically tied to the quieter Radiator Springs montage.
