In Pixar’s Cars, Chick Hicks is Lightning McQueen’s main rival and the eventual Piston Cup winner.
Hicks is the green No. 86 race car who has spent years competing against the celebrated Strip Weathers, known as The King. He is introduced as an aggressive driver whose ambition is to win the championship and replace The King as the sport’s leading star.
During the final race, Hicks deliberately causes a crash that sends The King into a wall. Lightning McQueen reaches the finish first, but stops before the line and helps The King complete his final race. Because McQueen refuses to accept the victory under those circumstances, Hicks is officially awarded the Piston Cup.
A common mix-up is calling Hicks the film’s overall villain in the same sense as a traditional antagonist. He is the principal racing rival, while the film’s central conflict also concerns McQueen’s selfishness, responsibility, and changing priorities.
