In Pixar’s Cars, Rascal Flatts performs the end-credits song “Life Is a Highway.”

The country music group recorded a new version of Tom Cochrane’s 1991 song specifically for the film’s soundtrack. Their energetic cover accompanies the closing credits and became one of the most recognizable musical elements associated with Cars.

Tom Cochrane originally wrote and recorded “Life Is a Highway,” and his version was a major hit before Pixar used the song. Rascal Flatts’ rendition connected the movie’s road-trip setting with contemporary country music and helped the soundtrack reach a broad audience.

The song is sometimes mistakenly credited to Tom Cochrane when people are identifying the Cars recording. Cochrane wrote the song, but Rascal Flatts performed the version heard in the film. The group’s recording was also released as a single and became strongly identified with the franchise.
