Mater is the rusty blue tow truck in Pixar's Cars.
Mater lives in Radiator Springs and becomes Lightning McQueen's closest friend. His comic personality, rural speech, and enthusiasm contrast with McQueen's initial celebrity-driven ambition. Although Mater looks battered and old, he is resourceful, loyal, and central to the film's emotional turn.
Larry the Cable Guy provides Mater's voice. The name is a shortening of “tomater,” reflecting the character's playful speech and his friendship with McQueen. Mater also appears in the sequels and stars in the short-form series Mater's Tall Tales.
Guido is a small blue forklift, Luigi is a yellow Fiat 500, and Ramone is a purple lowrider. Their vehicle types and colors help separate them from Mater, despite all being residents of Radiator Springs.
