In Pixar’s Cars, Luigi is a Fiat 500.
Luigi owns Casa Della Tires in Radiator Springs and is one of the town’s most enthusiastic residents. His compact Italian design, expressive personality, and admiration for Ferrari racing make him an especially recognizable character. He speaks with an Italian accent and proudly displays his connection to Italian car culture.
Luigi’s model is a Fiat 500, a small city car first introduced by Fiat in 1957. The real vehicle became strongly associated with postwar Italian mobility because of its compact size and economical design. Pixar’s character is a stylized animated interpretation rather than a mechanically exact replica.
A frequent mix-up is identifying Luigi as a Volkswagen Beetle because both cars have rounded shapes and compact proportions. His friend Guido is not another Fiat 500: Guido is a small forklift who works at Luigi’s tire shop and assists with pit-stop service.
