The tow truck known as Tow Mater is named Mater in Pixar’s Cars.
Mater is the rusty tow truck who lives in Radiator Springs and becomes Lightning McQueen’s closest friend. His full nickname is commonly written as Tow Mater, a pun on “tomato.” Larry the Cable Guy voices the character in Cars and its sequels.
Mater is often associated with towing because that is his job, but his role in the story is much larger. He helps Lightning understand friendship, local history, and the value of slowing down. The name “Mater” is the canonical character name; “Tow Mater” describes his occupation and nickname rather than a separate character.
