In Pixar's Cars, the three-time Piston Cup champion known as The Fabulous Hudson Hornet is Doc Hudson.
Doc is introduced as Radiator Springs' town doctor and judge, but Lightning McQueen discovers that he once had a celebrated racing career. Under the name The Fabulous Hudson Hornet, Doc won three Piston Cups before a crash and subsequent rejection by the racing world ended his career.
The character is inspired by the real Hudson Hornet, a car associated with stock-car racing success in the early 1950s. Real Hudson Hornets won NASCAR championships in 1951, 1952, and 1953, which helps explain the film's use of three championships for Doc's fictional history.
The King is another veteran champion, but he is a Plymouth Superbird-inspired racer and not the Hudson Hornet. Strip Weathers is The King's personal name, while Doc Hudson is the correct identity here.
