In Pixar's Cars 3, Jackson Storm challenges Lightning McQueen as a leading next-generation racer.
Storm is faster and more technologically advanced than many veteran competitors. His arrival makes Lightning realize that experience and reputation alone may no longer keep him at the front of the Piston Cup field. The rivalry drives Lightning's attempt to rebuild his confidence and adapt to modern racing.
Jackson Storm is voiced by Armie Hammer. His sleek black design contrasts with Lightning's familiar red appearance, emphasizing the film's theme of changing racing technology. Storm is not the same character as Chick Hicks, the aggressive rival from the first Cars film. Cars 3 also introduces Cruz Ramirez, a trainer whose role develops significantly as Lightning searches for a new way to compete and eventually considers what his own future in racing should be.
