Cruz Ramirez becomes Lightning McQueen’s new trainer and technical partner in Pixar’s Cars 3.
Cruz is a highly skilled trainer at the Rust-eze Racing Center, where she uses data, simulation, and modern training methods. Lightning initially resists her approach because he wants to prepare like an old-school racer, but their partnership develops as both characters learn from each other.
Cristela Alonzo voices Cruz Ramirez. The character represents a new generation of racing technology and talent, while Lightning represents experience and tradition. Their relationship becomes central to the film’s story about aging, adaptation, confidence, and mentorship.
Cruz is not Lightning’s original coach. In the first Cars film, Doc Hudson helps Lightning understand racing and sportsmanship. Cruz’s role in Cars 3 is different: she begins as a trainer and eventually proves that she can compete at the highest level herself.
