In Pixar's Cars 2, Porto Corsa, the second World Grand Prix location, is in Italy. The fictional coastal city provides the setting for a major race in the international competition.
The World Grand Prix begins in Tokyo, continues to Porto Corsa, and ends in London. Porto Corsa is presented with Italian-style architecture and a coastal racing circuit, allowing the film to shift from the Japanese opening to a Mediterranean environment before reaching Britain.
The name combines an Italian-sounding port reference with “corsa,” a word associated with racing or a race in Italian. The location is fictional rather than a real Italian city, so it should not be confused with places such as Portofino, Genoa, or the real town of Corsa.
Cars 2 uses these locations to create a globe-spanning story around Lightning McQueen's racing career and Mater's accidental involvement in espionage. John Lasseter and Brad Lewis directed the 2011 sequel.
