In Pixar's Cars 2, Francesco Bernoulli represents Italy in the World Grand Prix.
Francesco is a famous Italian Formula-style race car and one of Lightning McQueen's main rivals in the film. He has a confident, boastful personality and repeatedly emphasizes his racing success, creating a competitive but comic contrast with Lightning.
The World Grand Prix takes competitors to several international locations, including Japan, Italy, and England. The Italian race takes place in Porto Corso, a fictional coastal city inspired by locations along the Italian Riviera. Francesco's nationality helps connect him to that setting and to the film's global racing theme.
Francesco is voiced in the English version by John Turturro. He is sometimes confused with Lightning McQueen because both are major racers, but Francesco is the red-and-white Italian competitor with the distinctive open-wheel design.
