Answer
World Grand Prix
In Pixar's Cars 2, Lightning McQueen enters the World Grand Prix.
The World Grand Prix is organized by Miles Axlerod, a former oil tycoon who promotes the event as a global showcase for alternative fuel. Lightning is invited to compete after initially declining a challenge from Francesco Bernoulli, the race's flamboyant Italian champion.
The competition takes the racers to three major locations: Tokyo, Porto Corsa and London. These settings give the sequel a much broader international scale than the first Cars film, whose main action is concentrated around Radiator Springs and a California highway.
The World Grand Prix also connects the sports story to the film's spy plot. Mater becomes involved with British agents Finn McMissile and Holley Shiftwell while a conspiracy targets cars using Allinol fuel. The racing series is therefore both the film's central sporting event and the setting for its espionage adventure.
