DuBois is a French animal-control officer whose exaggerated confidence and relentless pursuit make her the main human antagonist. She tracks Alex, Marty, Melman and Gloria across Europe after they leave Africa and try to find a safe route back to New York.
The character is portrayed as an unusually determined tracker with an intense fixation on capturing Alex. Her pursuit gives the film a chase structure while the animals hide within a travelling circus. DuBois also performs musical numbers, adding the broad comic style associated with the Madagascar series.
Frances McDormand provides DuBois’s voice in the English-language version. The character is sometimes confused with the circus performers, especially because she appears throughout the same European storyline, but DuBois is an officer hunting the animals, not a member of the circus.
