In Land of the Dead, the intelligent zombie leader is named Big Daddy.
Big Daddy is played by Eugene Clark in George A. Romero’s 2005 film. He is a former gas station attendant who gradually demonstrates memory, problem-solving ability, communication, and leadership. His development marks a significant change from the largely instinct-driven undead in Romero’s earlier films.
The surviving human population lives in a fortified Pittsburgh, where wealthy residents occupy the skyscraper Fiddler’s Green while poorer people remain outside. Big Daddy leads zombies toward the city, turning the conflict into a struggle shaped by class division as well as infection.
Big Daddy is not the same character as Bub from Day of the Dead. Bub is Romero’s earlier experimental zombie, while Big Daddy becomes the leader of the undead in Land of the Dead. The name is especially memorable because it reflects his role as an organizer rather than merely a powerful individual.
