In J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter world, catching the Golden Snitch is worth 150 points.
Quidditch is played on broomsticks by two teams of seven players. Each team has three Chasers, two Beaters, one Keeper, and one Seeker. The Seeker’s special task is to locate and catch the Golden Snitch, a small, fast-moving golden ball with silver wings.
A normal goal, scored when a Quaffle passes through one of the opposing team’s hoops, is worth 10 points. Catching the Snitch adds 150 points and usually ends the match, although the team with the catch does not always win if it is already far behind.
The unusual scoring system makes the Seeker’s role strategically important. In the books, Harry Potter plays Seeker for Gryffindor, while characters such as Draco Malfoy and Cedric Diggory also play the position. Quidditch later inspired adaptations for real-world recreational sports.
