J.K. Rowling’s main Harry Potter novel sequence contains seven books.
The series begins with Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, published in 1997, and ends with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, published in 2007. Across the seven novels, readers follow Harry’s school years and his conflict with Lord Voldemort.
The seven-book structure is sometimes confused with the film series, which contains eight films because the final novel was adapted in two parts. Rowling also wrote companion works, including Quidditch Through the Ages and The Tales of Beedle the Bard, but those are not part of the seven main novels.
