In 'Ice Age', what is the name of the sloth?

The story behind the answer

In “Ice Age,” the sloth is named Sid.

Sid is a talkative, clumsy ground sloth who becomes one of the film’s three central characters. After his family abandons him during migration, he joins forces with Manny, a woolly mammoth, and Diego, a saber-toothed cat. Together, they attempt to return a human baby named Roshan to his tribe.

Sid is often called simply a “sloth,” but the film identifies him as a ground sloth, a group of prehistoric mammals that included much larger species than living tree sloths. The movie gives Sid faster movement and more flexible behavior than real ground sloths would likely have had for comic effect.

Scrat, the acorn-obsessed saber-toothed squirrel, is another memorable “Ice Age” character, but he is not the sloth. Manny and Diego are also members of the herd. John Leguizamo provides Sid’s voice and helped create his distinctive lisp and energetic comic delivery.
