In 'Finding Nemo', what kind of fish is Nemo?
Answer
Clownfish
Answer
Clownfish
In “Finding Nemo,” Nemo is a clownfish. More specifically, he is a common clownfish, a small reef fish recognized by orange coloring, white bands, and black-edged fins.
Nemo’s species is important to the story because clownfish live among sea anemones. His father, Marlin, makes his home in an anemone and becomes intensely protective after a barracuda attack kills Nemo’s mother and the couple’s other eggs. Nemo’s small front fin, which Marlin calls his “lucky fin,” is a distinctive character detail rather than a different species.
The film follows Nemo after he is captured by a diver and placed in a dentist’s aquarium in Sydney. Marlin crosses the ocean to find him, meeting Dory and encountering sharks, sea turtles, jellyfish, and other marine life along the way. Dory is a blue tang, which is why that answer is a frequent mix-up.
Released in 2003, “Finding Nemo” was produced by Pixar and directed by Andrew Stanton. Its portrayal of clownfish helped make the species one of the best-known reef fish among younger audiences.
