In Elden Ring, Melina gives the player the Spectral Steed Whistle used to summon Torrent.
Melina appears after the player rests at several Sites of Grace in the opening regions. She proposes an accord with the Tarnished and provides the whistle, which is officially called the Spectral Steed Whistle. Using it summons Torrent for rapid travel and mounted combat.
Torrent is not obtained from Ranni, although Ranni is another important character connected to the game’s central mysteries. Ranni later appears at the Church of Elleh under the name Renna and gives the Spirit Calling Bell, a different key item.
The whistle can be used in the open world, but Torrent cannot be summoned in every interior or encounter area. The spectral steed also enables the player to reach otherwise inaccessible heights with double jumps.
