In Dark Souls, what key item does Pinwheel grant when defeated?

Pinwheel grants the Rite of Kindling when defeated in Dark Souls.

The Rite of Kindling is a key item obtained after the Catacombs boss fight. It expands the player’s ability to kindle bonfires, allowing a kindled bonfire to provide more Estus Flasks than the initial standard limit. This makes it especially valuable before difficult journeys or boss attempts.

The item does not itself restore health, increase character statistics, or upgrade weapons. Instead, it changes what the player can do at bonfires after the required boss encounter. Kindling remains a central part of Dark Souls’ preparation system because bonfires function as checkpoints, travel locations, and healing stations.

A common confusion is with humanity, which is consumed to kindle a bonfire. The Rite of Kindling unlocks the greater kindling capability, while humanity is still required for the individual bonfire action.
