In Dark Souls, what is the name of the ring required to survive the Four Kings’ arena?

In Dark Souls, the Covenant of Artorias is the ring required to survive the Four Kings’ arena.

The player obtains this ring by defeating Great Grey Wolf Sif in Darkroot Garden. Equipping it allows the player to descend into the Abyss, the dark arena where the Four Kings are fought. Without the ring, entering the abyss causes immediate death rather than beginning the boss encounter.

The ring represents Artorias’s ability to traverse the Abyss and is tied directly to the lore surrounding his failed battle against it. The Four Kings are located in New Londo Ruins, an area that must be drained before the route to the boss becomes accessible.

The Covenant of Artorias is not itself a multiplayer covenant, despite the word “Covenant” in its name. It is a ring and key progression item. The Ring of Artorias is the name used in some related references, but the game’s item name is Covenant of Artorias.
