The main adventure in Dark Souls takes place in Lordran. This ruined kingdom contains the game’s major areas, including the Undead Burg, Blighttown, Anor Londo, Sen’s Fortress, and the Kiln of the First Flame.
Lordran is designed as a connected land rather than a collection of unrelated stages. Shortcuts, locked doors, elevators, and hidden routes gradually reveal how its regions fit together. The world’s geography is one of the reasons Dark Souls is often praised for exploration.
Lordran is sometimes confused with locations from other games in the series. Boletaria is the setting of Demon’s Souls, Drangleic belongs to Dark Souls II, and Lothric is the principal kingdom of Dark Souls III.
The kingdom is also central to the game’s mythology. Its history is tied to the First Flame, the Age of Fire, the gods of Anor Londo, and the undead curse affecting the player character.
