In Dark Souls lore, who is known as the Lord of Sunlight?

The story behind the answer

Gwyn is known in Dark Souls lore as the Lord of Sunlight. He is one of the powerful beings who discovered a Lord Soul after the First Flame appeared and used its power to oppose the dragons.

Gwyn’s forces helped establish the Age of Fire. His followers included powerful figures such as the Four Knights of Gwyn, while the city of Anor Londo became the center of his royal order. The game presents much of this history indirectly through dialogue, item descriptions, architecture, and boss encounters.

Gwyn is sometimes confused with Gwynevere, his daughter, or with the player’s later encounter with him as the final boss. The name “Gwyn” identifies the Lord of Sunlight, while Gwynevere is the Princess of Sunlight and a separate character.

The title also distinguishes Gwyn from other major Lord Soul bearers. Nito is the First of the Dead, and the Witch of Izalith is associated with the creation of the Bed of Chaos.
