In Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag, which pirate-turned-Assassin controls the story?

The story behind the answer

The pirate-turned-Assassin at the center of Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag is Edward Kenway.

Edward is a Welsh privateer who becomes involved with the Assassins and Templars during the Golden Age of Piracy in the early 18th-century Caribbean. At first, he is motivated mainly by money and personal advancement rather than by either faction's ideals. His experiences gradually change his priorities.

The game combines land-based stealth with naval exploration aboard Edward's ship, the Jackdaw. Players visit Caribbean locations including Havana, Nassau, and Kingston, while encountering historical pirates such as Blackbeard, Charles Vane, and Anne Bonny.

Edward is the father of Haytham Kenway and the grandfather of Ratonhnhaké:ton, also known as Connor, whose story is told in Assassin's Creed III. Edward Teach, better known as Blackbeard, is a separate historical pirate and an important character in Black Flag, not the game's protagonist.
