Assassin's Creed Origins is primarily set in which ancient Egyptian kingdom?

The story behind the answer

Assassin's Creed Origins is primarily set in Ptolemaic Egypt.

The game takes place in the first century BCE, during the final period of the Ptolemaic Kingdom. Its protagonist, Bayek of Siwa, is a Medjay who becomes involved in the origins of the Hidden Ones, the organization that later develops into the Assassin Brotherhood.

Ptolemaic Egypt was ruled by the Ptolemaic dynasty, a Greek Macedonian royal house founded after the death of Alexander the Great. Cleopatra VII and her brother Ptolemy XIII appear in the game's political story, which also includes Julius Caesar and the Roman Republic's growing influence.

The setting is not simply ancient Egypt at any time in its history. The game's world includes Egyptian traditions alongside Greek and Roman political power, reflecting the kingdom's multicultural character. Its historical period also places the narrative long before Altaïr, Ezio, or the medieval Assassins of the first game.
