The Airbus A380 has 22 wheels in its complete landing-gear arrangement.
The total consists of two wheels on the nose landing gear and 20 wheels on the main landing gear. The main gear is divided among four four-wheel body bogies and two six-wheel wing bogies, allowing the very large aircraft to spread its weight across the runway.
The A380’s wheel count is sometimes confused with its number of main landing-gear wheels. Counting only the main gear gives 20, while counting the nose gear as well gives the complete total of 22. This arrangement was designed for the A380’s high maximum takeoff weight and compatibility with airport pavement standards.
The A380 entered commercial service with Singapore Airlines in 2007. Its enormous size also led airports to modify gates, taxiways, boarding bridges and stands, although the aircraft uses standard-width runways at many airports.
