The Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games programme included 10 sports.
That was an unusually compact programme for the modern Commonwealth Games. Glasgow’s event was created as a scaled-down replacement after Victoria, Australia, withdrew as 2026 host, so organisers focused on existing venues and a lower-cost operating model. The Games used seven venues and did not build a traditional athletes’ village.
The 10 sports were athletics, swimming, boxing, judo, weightlifting, track cycling, bowls, netball, 3x3 basketball and artistic gymnastics. Para-sport events were integrated across several of these sports, including athletics, swimming, cycling, bowls, powerlifting and 3x3 basketball.
The figure is sometimes confused with the number of disciplines or competition categories. For example, para powerlifting was part of the programme, but it did not make the overall count 11 when the organisers’ sport total was used. Glasgow’s total was the lowest since the 1994 Commonwealth Games and contrasted sharply with Birmingham 2022, which featured 20 sports.
