The original Rugrats series had 9 seasons.
Rugrats premiered on Nickelodeon on August 11, 1991, as one of the network’s early Nicktoons. Its stories followed Tommy Pickles, Chuckie Finster, Phil and Lil DeVille, Angelica, and other toddlers whose ordinary experiences became huge adventures through their imaginations.
The show initially ran for three seasons before production paused after co-creator Paul Germain left Klasky Csupo. New episodes resumed in 1997 with a different writing team, and later seasons introduced characters such as Tommy’s baby brother Dil and Chuckie’s stepsister Kimi. The final episode aired on August 1, 2004.
A common mix-up is confusing the nine seasons with the show’s episode count: Rugrats produced 172 episodes, divided into 327 shorter story segments. The later All Grown Up! sequel is a separate series with five seasons.
