Need for Speed: ProStreet features four race modes: Grip, Drag, Drift and Speed.
Each mode tests a different aspect of car control. Grip races use circuit layouts and reward racing lines, lap performance or position. Drag races take place on short, straight courses where gear changes, launches and wheelies can determine the result. Drift events award points for maintaining controlled slides through corners. Speed races emphasize extreme velocity, either by reaching the finish first or recording the highest speed at checkpoints.
ProStreet’s four-mode structure matches its focus on organized, legal motorsport rather than the illegal street-racing stories of earlier entries. Players compete in closed-track events, tune cars for specific disciplines and manage damage between races. A vehicle built for Grip may not be ideal for Drift or Drag, so choosing the right setup is part of the strategy.
The modes are sometimes confused with ProStreet’s broader event and career categories. Career, multiplayer and custom events describe how races are organized, not additional race types. The core race disciplines remain four.
