Seven players are on each Quidditch team during a match in J.K. Rowling’s novels.
A team has three Chasers, two Beaters, one Keeper, and one Seeker. The Chasers handle the Quaffle and try to score through the opposing team’s hoops. Beaters use bats to redirect Bludgers, while the Keeper defends the hoops. The Seeker searches for the Golden Snitch.
Catching the Golden Snitch usually ends the match and awards 150 points, so the Seeker’s role can determine the result even when the other players have built a large score. The sport’s scoring and positions make it more complicated than a simple ball game.
Rowling invented Quidditch for the fictional wizarding world, and the sport appears throughout the Harry Potter books. A real-world adaptation called Muggle Quidditch, later known as Quadball, developed separately and has its own rules.
