Alexander Stadium’s two permanent stands provide 18,000 seats for Birmingham 2026.
The stadium served as the main venue for the 2026 European Athletics Championships. It was renovated between 2019 and 2022, ahead of major sporting use in Birmingham, and its permanent seating forms the core of the spectator accommodation.
For major events, the venue can be expanded to hold up to 40,000 spectators. That larger figure should not be confused with the 18,000 permanent seats in the two stands. Temporary or event-specific capacity can therefore exceed the stadium’s permanent seating arrangement.
Alexander Stadium is located in Perry Barr, Birmingham. It has hosted important athletics and multi-sport competitions before 2026, including the 2022 Commonwealth Games. Birmingham 2026 represented the first time a British city hosted the senior European Athletics Championships.
