The original Sugababes lineup had three members.
The group was formed in London in 1998 by Keisha Buchanan, Mutya Buena and Siobhán Donaghy. The trio’s early formation placed them within the late-1990s wave of British pop groups, but their music also drew on R&B and electronic influences.
Sugababes released their debut single, “Overload,” in 2000. It became a UK top-ten hit and established the group before their first album, One Touch, was released later that year. The original trio remained together for the first Sugababes album and several singles.
The membership later changed repeatedly, which can cause confusion when people count the group’s lineups. Donaghy left in 2001 and was replaced by Heidi Range; Buena later departed and was replaced by Amelle Berrabah. Buchanan was the final original member to leave, in 2009. Despite those changes, the group’s founding configuration was always a three-person lineup.
