Great Britain and Northern Ireland won nine gold medals at the 2026 European Athletics Championships in Birmingham.
The host team finished second in the medal table by gold medals, behind Italy’s total of 10. Great Britain and Northern Ireland also collected eight silver medals and two bronze medals, giving the team 19 medals overall.
The host nation’s nine victories came across a range of events, including individual track and field contests and relays. The medal table ranks nations primarily by gold medals, so Great Britain and Northern Ireland placed below Italy despite having a strong overall performance.
This result can be confused with the nation’s total medal count or with Germany’s placing. Germany won six gold medals, 10 silver medals, and five bronze medals for 21 medals overall, but its six golds placed it third. The Birmingham host team’s defining medal-table figure was therefore nine golds.
