Five 2026–27 Premier League matches were scheduled for Saturday, 22 August.
The Saturday programme began with Hull City hosting Manchester United in the first Saturday lunchtime match. Three further fixtures were listed for the standard 15:00 slot: Everton against Crystal Palace, Ipswich Town against Sunderland, and Nottingham Forest against Leeds United.
Saturday’s action ended with Brentford hosting Tottenham Hotspur at 17:30. This produced a five-match day spread across lunchtime, afternoon and early evening kick-offs.
The number can be confused with the total number of matches in the opening Matchweek. Ten fixtures formed the opening round overall, but the round was distributed across four days: one on Friday, five on Saturday, three on Sunday and one on Monday.
