Ten matches made up the 2026–27 Premier League opening Matchweek.
The round involved all 20 Premier League clubs once, producing ten fixtures. Arsenal versus Coventry City opened the season on Friday, 21 August, while Fulham versus Chelsea was scheduled to finish the round on Monday, 24 August.
The matches were distributed across four days: one on Friday, five on Saturday, three on Sunday, and one on Monday. This four-day arrangement reflected the league’s broadcast schedule and the need to spread fixtures across the opening weekend.
A Premier League season contains 20 clubs, and each club plays 38 league matches. A single complete Matchweek therefore normally contains ten matches, although postponements can sometimes mean that not every fixture is played on the same calendar weekend.
