Gorham's Cave is in which British Overseas Territory?

The story behind the answer

Gorham’s Cave is in Gibraltar, a British Overseas Territory.

The cave lies on the southeastern face of the Rock of Gibraltar, overlooking the Strait of Gibraltar. It is part of the Gorham’s Cave Complex, a group of four caves whose archaeological deposits preserve evidence of Neanderthal and later human occupation.

Gorham’s Cave is especially important because Neanderthals used the site for thousands of years. Excavations have uncovered stone tools, hearths, animal remains, and other traces of activity. The wider evidence indicates occupation spanning roughly 120,000 years, helping researchers reconstruct changing environments and lifeways at the western edge of Europe.

In 2016, UNESCO inscribed the Gorham’s Cave Complex as a World Heritage Site. A frequent misconception is that the cave is simply a modern tourist cavern or an ordinary sea cave. Although it is at sea level and close to the coast, it is chiefly valued as an archaeological site. Gibraltar itself is a British Overseas Territory at the southern tip of the Iberian Peninsula, not an independent sovereign state or one of the other territories listed as options.
