At which prison did Johnny Cash record a 1969 live album?

The story behind the answer

Johnny Cash recorded his 1969 live album at San Quentin State Prison in California. The concert took place on February 24, 1969, and became the album Johnny Cash at San Quentin, released that June. It followed his landmark 1968 prison recording, At Folsom Prison.

The San Quentin performance captured Cash at a tense and highly theatrical moment. The original album included two performances of “San Quentin,” after the audience demanded an encore, and it featured “A Boy Named Sue,” which became one of Cash's biggest crossover hits. The concert was also filmed for a television documentary.

The album was a major commercial success, reaching number one on the U.S. country album chart and crossing over strongly on the pop chart. Readers often mix up San Quentin with Folsom because both were famous California prison concerts and both produced celebrated live albums. Folsom was recorded in 1968; San Quentin was the following year's performance.
