At which London railway station is the fictional Platform 9¾ from J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series located?

The story behind the answer

In J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter series, the fictional Platform 9¾ is located at King’s Cross Station in London.

Harry and other Hogwarts students reach the platform by passing through a magical barrier between platforms 9 and 10. From there, they board the Hogwarts Express, which carries them to Hogsmeade near Hogwarts at the start and end of school terms.

King’s Cross was significant to Rowling because she traveled through the station and later used it as the departure point for the wizarding school. In the real station, platforms 9 and 10 are separated by tracks, so the precise fictional barrier does not correspond directly to an ordinary platform entrance.

A Platform 9¾ visitor attraction and luggage-trolley photo point became a popular feature at King’s Cross. The nearby Harry Potter shop also uses the series’ railway imagery.
