At which Chevrolet factory was the first production Corvette assembled in 1953?
Answer
Flint Assembly Plant
Answer
Flint Assembly Plant
The first production Corvette was assembled at Chevrolet’s Flint Assembly Plant in Michigan in 1953.
Chevrolet built the first Corvette production cars at Flint before moving Corvette assembly to the St. Louis Assembly Plant in Missouri for the 1954 model year. The Flint-built cars formed the short initial run of the new two-seat sports car.
Those 1953 Corvettes used fiberglass body panels and were powered by Chevrolet’s Blue Flame inline-six engine. They were offered in Polo White with a red interior, making the launch specification especially distinctive.
Modern Corvette production is associated with Bowling Green, Kentucky, but Bowling Green did not build the first-generation launch cars. Corvette assembly moved there in 1981, long after the original Flint production run.
