Answer
Southern coast
Answer
Southern coast
Yaren, Nauru’s de facto capital, lies on the island’s southern coast.
Yaren occupies part of Nauru’s narrow coastal belt on the south side of the island. Its position is easy to distinguish on a map: Buada lies to the north, Meneng to the east, and Boe to the west. The district’s government buildings and airport sit close to this southern shoreline.
Nauru is a raised coral island with a coastal strip surrounding a higher central plateau. Much of the island’s interior was transformed by phosphate mining, while settlement and infrastructure remain concentrated around the coast. That geography helps explain why the country’s administrative centre is identified by district rather than by a large inland city.
The southern-coast location is sometimes confused with Nauru’s broader island geography or with Aiwo, another district containing important facilities. Yaren is the governmental centre, but Nauru does not officially designate a capital city.
