Who won the inaugural PDC World Grand Prix darts tournament in 1998?

The story behind the answer

Phil Taylor won the inaugural PDC World Grand Prix darts tournament in 1998.

Taylor defeated Rod Harrington 6–1 in the final of the first World Grand Prix, held in Dublin, Ireland. The tournament was introduced in 1998 and became notable for its double-start and double-finish format.

In this format, players must begin each leg by hitting a double or the bullseye, and they must also finish on a double or the bullseye. This makes the event tactically different from most major tournaments, where players can begin scoring with any segment.

The competition was originally staged at the Casino Club in Dublin before later moving to other venues. Taylor’s opening victory began a long association with the tournament; he went on to become its most successful champion.
